President Donald Trump is heading to the Super Bowl this weekend, and Travis Kelce is stoked about it. In a press conference on Wednesday, the Chiefs tight end said that Trump coming to the big game is “an honor.” Maybe the quote will seem better in its full context …
“That’s awesome. It’s a great honor,” Kelce told reporters when asked about Trump’s presence on Sunday. “I think, you know, no matter who the president is, I know I’m excited because it’s the biggest game of my life, and having the president there — you know, it’s the best country in the world. So that’d be pretty cool.”
Well, that actually made it worse. My bad. Has he no hate in his heart for the man who publicly beefed with his beloved girlfriend? It feels like just yesterday that Trump wrote, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” after Swift endorsed Kamala Harris. Or how about when he pitted Chiefs WAGs against each other, telling Fox News Brittany Mahomes “is a big MAGA fan; that’s the one I like much better than Taylor Swift”?
Obviously, Kelce was never a beacon of progressive politics, and he’s probably smart enough to know that a decent portion of his fan base (and some of his teammates) voted for Trump. But you’d think he might foster some animosity toward his girlfriend’s biggest hater. Stand up for your woman! Isn’t old-fashioned masculinity part of what makes America great?
