Donald Trump has entered the stan wars. On Sunday, the former president shared a post on Truth Social that read, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” Did he finally get around to listening to The Tortured Poets Department? Was he expecting an album about Joe Alwyn and was disappointed to find a bunch of songs about Matty Healy? No, he hates her for real, thanks to her endorsement of Kamala Harris.
Swift threw her support behind Harris shortly after last week’s presidential debate. In an Instagram post, the singer wrote, “I think [Harris] is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.” Swift also noted that she had been spurred to share her voting plans after Trump shared AI images of her endorsing him.
Trump appeared on Fox & Friends the next day in a catty mood, saying that he actually prefers Swift’s friend Brittany Mahomes, whom he called “a big Trump fan.” (Mahomes received a lot of attention for liking then unliking a Trump post on Instagram last month.) The former president said he didn’t even like Swift that much to begin with.
“I was not a Taylor Swift fan.” he told the show’s hosts. “It was just a question of time … But she’s a very liberal person. She seems to always endorse a Democrat. And she’ll probably pay a price for it in the marketplace.”
Swift did not respond to any of this — she was probably busy picking out which pair of thigh-highs to wear to the next Chiefs game — which presumably only made Trump more upset. And what does he do when he’s upset? He posts in all caps.
It wasn’t always this way, though. Trump didn’t have any reaction four years ago when Swift baked a tray of cookies in honor of her Biden/Harris endorsement. And he certainly didn’t appear to hate her while cruising along to “Blank Space” with his family in 2014.
Although, to be fair, who can hate that song?
