In January, Machine Gun Kelly asked his Instagram followers a poignant question: “How can ‘sources say’ when sources haven’t said anything?’”
How, indeed. The 34-year-old rapper was referring to the near-constant tabloid speculation about his on-again, off-again relationship with Megan Fox. Fox, 38, is expecting the couple’s first child together any day now, but the two have broken up at least once during the pregnancy (and multiple times before that). What is ever going on with them? Let’s start at the beginning.
A chance meeting via Randall Emmett
Fox and MGK were introduced on the set of Midnight in the Switchgrass, a film I believe no one has ever seen that was directed by the disgraced producer Randall Emmett. Still, this is where the couple’s love bloomed. They were “friends” when they first met on set in March 2020, as Fox was then married to Brian Austin Green, but by May, Green announced that he and Fox were divorcing. Fox then popped up in MGK’s music video for “My Bloody Valentine.”
Twin flames
In July 2020, Fox and MGK appeared on Give Them Lala … With Randall, which was Emmett’s podcast with his then-girlfriend, Vanderpump Rules star Lala Kent. It was there that Fox explained the seriousness of her connection to MGK.
“I knew right away that he was what I call a twin flame,” she said. “Instead of a soulmate, a twin flame is actually where a soul has ascended into a high enough level that it can be split into two different bodies at the same time. So we’re actually two halves of the same soul, I think. And I said that to him almost immediately, because I felt it right away.”
A few months later, in a November cover story for Nylon, Fox hinted at the chaotic nature of the relationship. “Loving him is like being in love with a tsunami or a forest fire,” she said. “The intensity of merging with him is just overwhelming, and the threat it poses is so powerful but so beautiful that you have no choice but to surrender with reverence and with gratitude.”
MGK also spoke lovingly of Fox during this period. In an interview with Teen Vogue, he declared, “I think Megan has the most beautiful feet that exist.”
Future baby daddy
By September 2021, MGK and Fox were a bona fide celebrity couple and attended the MTV VMAs together alongside Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker. They all made out in the bathroom:
Fox also hinted at her reproductive future with MGK when she introduced his performance with Barker during the awards show. “New York, I need you to get extra loud for our future baby daddies,” she said.
Getting engaged and drinking each other’s blood
In January 2022, after months of speculation, Fox and MGK officially got engaged during a trip to Puerto Rico. In a now-deleted post on Instagram, Fox announced the news thusly: “Somehow a year and a half later, having walked through hell together, and having laughed more than I ever imagined possible, he asked me to marry him. And just as in every lifetime before this one, and as in every lifetime that will follow it, I said yes … and then we drank each other’s blood.”
She later clarified to British Glamour that the actual blood-drinking was minimal. “It’s just a few drops, but yes, we do consume each other’s blood on occasion for ritual purposes only,” she said.
MGK told Vogue that he proposed with a $500,000 toi et moi emerald and diamond ring with “bands that are actually thorns, so if she tries to take it off, it hurts.”
Sadly, Fox did end up removing the ring about a year later.
A Super Bowl breakup
Things seemed mostly happy for the couple until February 2023, when they attended the Super Bowl together. The following day, Fox posted an image of a burning letter on Instagram with lyrics from Beyoncé’s Lemonade. The implication, the tabloids concurred, was that Fox believed MGK cheated.
“Megan is very upset. They had a fight over the weekend and Megan won’t speak to him,” an insider told People. “They haven’t officially called off the engagement, but Megan took her ring off.”
A poetry book and a revelation
Fox and MGK eventually got back together, and in November 2023, Fox released a book of poetry that touched on their relationship and her relationships with other men titled Pretty Boys Are Poisonous. In an interview with Alex Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Fox admitted that the poem “32-Year-Old Narcissist Attempts to Quantify His Crimes” is about MGK.
Fox also revealed in the book that she had a miscarriage at some point in the couple’s relationship. “I’ve never been through anything like that in my life,” she told Good Morning America while promoting the book. “I have three kids, so it was very difficult for both of us and it sent us on a very wild journey together and separately … trying to navigate, ‘What does this mean?’ and ‘Why did this happen?’”

Pregnancy announcement
Almost exactly a year after her book was released, Megan Fox announced she was pregnant on Instagram with a caption that referenced MGK song lyrics (she also tagged him on her belly in the photo).
MGK didn’t say anything about the announcement right away, but two weeks later, he posted on Twitter that he was “isolating” himself “in the desert” to work on an album. Hm.
Done for good?
In early December, the tabloids reported that Fox and MGK had broken up again, just weeks after making their pregnancy announcement. According to “Page Six,” Fox found evidence of MGK communicating with other women on his phone over a Thanksgiving trip to Vail and “decided she was done.”
“She feels like she can’t trust him,” another source told People. “They have had so many issues in the past. Megan was always hopeful that they would be able to work it out. She seems over it now, though.”
Even Fox’s ex-husband, Green, has weighed in on the situation, telling TMZ that MGK should “grow up” considering Fox is pregnant.
