A small plane carrying Vittorio Missoni, the eldest son of fashion house founders Ottavio and Rosita Missoni and one of the company’s top executives, has disappeared near the coast of Venezuela. The aircraft — which was also carrying Missoni’s wife, Maurizia Castiglioni, along with two family friends and two Venezuelan crew members — was declared missing after it failed to make its expected landing at Simon Bolivar International Airport in Caracas after taking off from an airport near the Los Roques resort. According to the Italian consulate in Venezuela, rescue crews are looking for the plane “with helicopters and ships, but have not found anything yet.” A Missoni spokeswoman said, “The Missoni family has been informed by the Venezuelan consulate that Vittorio Missoni and his wife are missing, but we don’t know any more.”
