Ann Watson, vice-president fashion director at Henri Bendel, reports from Milan on her favorite collections from the fall 2007 shows. What’s she planning on buying next year? Alessandro Dell’Acqua’s chiffon dresses, Dolce’s pewter trench, and lots of purple courtesy of Moschino.
Alessandro Dell’Acqua
Alessandro Dell’Acqua’s color palette was a breath of fresh air: optic white, pearl gray, black and nude with pops of blue and cherry red. His long and lean silhouette was sexy — the zip-front fitted scuba jackets, the ultimate skinny pant. My favorite pieces were the dresses; I loved the nude chiffon with a knit back and the short cherry-red pleated chiffon dress with wide nude elastic straps.

Dolce & Gabbana
The Dolce & Gabbana show was all about shine and sex — a surprise to no one. Leathers and satins came down the runway in a variety of metallic shades ranging from anthracite to rose gold. My favorite looks were a pewter trench with silver grommet details and a corset-style belt, and the season’s must-have: a voluminous, tie-front blouse paired with a wide-leg cuffed trouser in pewter and cinched at the waist with a metal belt.

Moschino
At Moschino, soft white gold was the color of choice for this very ladylike collection. It was shown in a variety of textures and fabrics like brocade, fur, Lurex knit, tweed, and chiffon. My favorite pieces were the perfectly proportioned coats, especially the short swing coat in tweed, and the array of metallic bags. I also loved the bubble dress in a sublime shade of purple — a favorite color from the New York shows that is popping up in Milan too.
