Pam Anderson, who’s all set to join the cast of the Baywatch movie, penned an op-ed for The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday condemning pornography as “a public hazard of unprecedented seriousness.” The former Playboy model partnered with ultra-conservative rabbi Shmuley Boteach to decry porn in the wake of Anthony Weiner’s third sexting scandal, which in fact had nothing whatsoever to do with porn:
And if anyone still doubted the devastation that porn addiction wreaks on those closest to the addict, behold the now-shattered marriage of Mr. Weiner and Huma Abedin … From our respective positions of rabbi-counselor and former Playboy model and actress, we have often warned about pornography’s corrosive effects on a man’s soul and on his ability to function as husband and, by extension, as father. This is a public hazard of unprecedented seriousness.
They go on to blame the internet and the dissemination of technology for so-called porn addiction, which they say is found disproportionately in men, who report “less satisfactory intimate lives with their wives or girlfriends as a result of the consumption.”
And the upcoming generation, they say, is particularly at risk because they’re being raised in an “environment of wall-to-wall, digitized sexual images … They are the crack babies of porn.”
Which sounds scary and all, except there’s no scientific evidence porn addiction — a popular conservative scapegoat — actually exists.
