The never-ending tax evasion allegations against Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana proceeded to Italy’s Supreme Court today. The designers are accused of dodging Italian taxes on royalties of about €1 billion (about $1.3 billion); although they were cleared of all charges by a Milanese court last year, the acquittal was later overturned. Gabbana has previously said they “pretend [the case] doesn’t exist,” which is probably why neither of them attended today’s hearing. According to Reuters, the designers’ lawyer asked the court to “annul the trial on grounds of alleged irregularities in the notification of court proceedings,” apparently taking issue with all the red tape this trial has gone through. The judge will decide whether or not to grant the request on December 14, at which point the case will either proceed or be thrown out yet again.
