Don’t get us wrong, we’re really excited to see the Sex and the City movie. We aren’t ashamed that the series has been a guilty pleasure since the nineties and at one point we wanted to be like Carrie. Well, maybe that is kind of embarrassing, but moving on. We don’t like how the movie’s marketing has somehow infantilized what began as a more sophisticated venture. Like, remember the old ads with the four girls smiling open-mouthed on the Brooklyn Bridge, looking fabulous, their clothes flouncing enviably in the breeze? And how somehow, even though they were on foot in the middle of the Brooklyn Bridge, that was something you wished you did with your girlfriends? Well, marketing must have thrown that faux old-world sophistication off the bridge when they were done shooting that spot, because now Sex and the City is all about sparkly pink stuff. Take, for instance, the premiere party plans at MoMA on Tuesday. BizBash reports:
The party is really going to be saturated in crystal, starting with the pink carpet covered in thousands of dollars’ worth of crystals. We’re also using beautiful heart ornaments sprinkled in the trees in the garden at MoMA, creating a twinkling effect. We’re working on the cocktail trays, too. Swarovski is going to create these crystallized logos of Sex and the City that they’re going to incorporate into custom-made trays to pass the food. That’s going to be hot.
Sounds more like Kira Plastinina’s birthday party than a swanky premiere. Sigh. At least they’re serving booze.
