Chargers add cornerback Benjamin St-Juste, bring back two key linebackers

The Chargers opened the new league year with three familiar faces.
On the first official day of free agency, the team announced the re-signing of linebackers Troy Dye and Denzel Perryman, and wide receiver Jalen Reagor.
Finally able to announce new signings Wednesday, the Chargers officially added running back Najee Harris and cornerbacks Donte Jackson and Benjamin St-Juste. St-Juste, whose agent Mike McCartney announced the one-year deal on X on Wednesday, had a career-high 71 tackles last season for the Washington Commanders.
Chargers cornerback Kristian Fulton is leaving L.A. after a productive season to reportedly sign a two-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Dye’s deal, as reported by NFL Media, is for two years and $5.5 million with an opportunity to earn $8 million. The Norco native returned to Southern California on a one-year contract last year after beginning his career with the Minnesota Vikings and had a career-best 57 tackles for the Chargers. He was a key figure in a linebackers unit that weathered a groin injury to Perryman, who missed six games.
The 32-year-old Perryman will return to the franchise that drafted him in 2015 on a one-year, $3.65-million deal, according to ESPN. Perryman was voted a team captain last year in his return after stints in Las Vegas and Houston.
The Chargers added Reagor, a former first-round draft pick, to their practice squad in September and elevated him to the active roster a month later. He started two of the eight games he appeared in before suffering a broken finger and caught seven passes for 100 yards. His return adds depth to a wide receivers group led by Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston.

But looking for more offensive firepower to support quarterback Justin Herbert, the Chargers missed on tight end Evan Engram, who went to the Denver Broncos on a two-year deal, agent Mike McCartney announced. The former Jacksonville Jaguars standout reportedly visited the Chargers, who have yet to add any new receivers or tight ends during free agency while losing receiver Joshua Palmer.
