So far, Zendaya and Tom Holland have remained quiet about their engagement. She appeared at the Golden Globes with a big rock on her ring finger, and that’s all that needed to be said. Or at least, that’s how the happy couple is approaching it. All bets are off when it comes to their family members, which leads us to the site of today’s gossip: Tom Holland’s dad’s Patreon.

Dominic Holland, an author and stand-up comedian whose entertainment career began before this century’s take on Spider-Man, publishes his long-running blog on the subscription-based platform. For $2 a month, you can read old-school blog posts about his seemingly very normal life. (For example, he recently had a “rash of angry mouth ulcers” and his dog had an expensive vet bill after eating a cracker that had raisins in it.) However, sometimes he writes about his famous son. On Friday, he was inspired to write about Tom’s approach to proposing in comparison to his own.

“Tom, as you know by now, was very incredibly well prepared,” Dominic wrote, “He had purchased a ring. He had spoken with her father and gained permission to propose to his daughter. Tom had everything planned out … When, where, how, what to say, what to wear.”

The post then goes into detail about Dominic’s engagement to Tom’s mother, Nikki, for which he was “woefully ill-prepared.” In case you’re curious, they were on vacation in Amsterdam, and she thought he was going to propose and got upset when he didn’t. Without a ring, he ended up asking, “So, do you wanna get married or what?”

Dominic wrote that Tom has a different approach to romance, perhaps due to the fact that he “obviously watched all the slushy movies because growing up I never saw him reading a book.” Just because you’re one of the most famous guys in the world doesn’t mean you’re safe from getting razzed by your dad.

After getting his burn in, Dominic got earnest, writing, “I do fret that their combined stardom will amplify their spotlight and the commensurate demands on them and yet they continually confound me by handling everything with aplomb … I am completely confident they will make a successful union.” As far as first drafts of wedding toasts go, this is a pretty good one.
