One month after Liam Payne fell to his death in Buenos Aires, the singer’s loved ones gathered in the U.K. for his funeral on Wednesday. Among the mourners were all four of Payne’s former One Direction bandmates — Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson — who reunited for the first time since 2015. According to “Page Six,” a horse-drawn carriage delivered Payne’s casket to the funeral, which was held in Home Counties outside London, before it was carried inside for a private ceremony.
Per the tabloid, Payne’s former bandmates arrived separately, wearing sunglasses as they paid their respects. At one point, Tomlinson and Malik were seen standing side by side, though they did not appear to speak. X Factor judge and One Direction creator Simon Cowell was in attendance with his girlfriend, Lauren Silverman. Per Us Weekly, Payne’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, was also spotted at the gathering, accompanied by Elizabeth Hurley’s son, Damian Hurley.
News of Payne’s tragic passing first broke in October, after the 31-year-old fell from a third-story balcony while on vacation in Argentina. Three people have been charged in connection with his death, though circumstances around the incident remain murky. Previously, Payne’s surviving bandmates shared tributes to their late friend, posting a rare joint statement to the group’s Instagram page. “The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever … We will miss him terribly,” it read. “We love you Liam.”
