Summer is a confusing time for fashion girls. It’s too hot to layer, but too cold indoors not to. Especially if you’re trying to trade UV rays for a cool day indoors at your favorite museum or the movies.

We came up with a classic jeans-and-tee look updated with fun colors and cool textures. This APC button-down features pink, green, and blue pinstripes — a bright mix of summery colors. (We love a roomy button-down in the summer because not only is it easy to throw on and off, it doesn’t stick to your body when it’s hot out.) But in the spirit of summertime spontaneity, we paired the button-down with a green swimsuit by Hunza G. Styled with a pair of Gap vintage-wash, skater-style baggy jeans, the one-piece is worn as a versatile bodysuit that resembles a thick tank.

To top off the look, we accessorized it with a classic Cuban-style loafer, which gives chic dad vibes. (Plus, it pops more than your traditional black or brown loafer and is sleeker than a white sneaker.) The structured leather shoes make the outfit look polished but neat.

The Look

Jeans can be hard to wear in the summer heat, so that’s why when we do, we want them to be a very loose fit. (Pro tip: If you want an even more exaggerated look, go up a size so the jeans hang more on the hips.) These baggy-style Gap jeans will most likely be the roomiest pair in your denim rotation. This mid-rise unisex pair features an extra-loose design that sits below the waist, with a slightly tapered leg, creating that super-slouchy, down-to-earth look. The jeans come in three different shades, but we choose the medium wash, equivalent to a cool vintage wash. And now, you can score an extra 40 percent off the jeans at check out.

Polish It Off

This outfit is all about layers, from the clothing to the bags. Yes, bags, plural. Believe it or not, there is a way to make your double bags look stylish and not like you came from the office. This pink Panconesi mini-bag contrasts sharply with the denim Mansur Gavriel hobo tote. But paired together, each bag plays off a color from the look and accentuates the styling. The denim tote blends into the jeans, while the crystal-and-stud purse is almost like mixed-metal jewelry, highlighting the pink in the button-down shirt.

Since this look has a lot of different accents, you don’t need anything too loud when it comes to more accessories. But for an added touch, we styled it with these delicate Sophie Buhai gold teardrop earrings. With all the warm colors in the outfit, the gold blends in with the tones and is just a subtle something extra.
