The Best Celebrity Halloween Costumes

After what felt like a full month of celebrating, Halloween 2024 is officially over. Once Heidi Klum hosts her annual bash, it’s time for everyone else to pack it up. Now that we’re done, we can officially say that some celebrity Halloween costumes were better than others. Here are all of our favorites from this year, including two E.T. costumes, two Lizzie McGuire homages, and Amelia Dimoldenberg in about 100 pounds of prosthetics. Let’s dive in, shall we?

Heidi Klum

No one loves Halloween like Klum. She showed up at her annual Halloween party dressed up as the version of E.T. who is also in costume, so there are layers here. What I love about this is that Klum has made the horrifying decision to have her head be E.T.’s neck. If you zoom in you can see her face, covered in neck-wrinkle prosthetics. Surely this is the best and only E.T. costume this year …

Janelle Monáe

Wrong! And this one begs the question: At what point is something no longer a Halloween costume? That’s the question coming to mind when I look at Janelle Monáe in full E.T. drag. I feel as though if I can’t really confirm that you’re in there (no eyes or body visible), it doesn’t totally work. That being said, I will be thinking about this costume for the foreseeable future. I’ve watched this several times now and the way she says, “It’s Janelle Monáe!” from inside the suit never ceases to make me laugh out loud.

Kim Kardashian

I’d love to know how “albino alligator” came to her.

Doja Cat

All you need to know about this one (if you’re confused) is that there’s a video game from 2001 where a flower has, as Doja puts it, “big tits.” She really nailed it.

Ed Sheeran

Maybe the first and only good thing AI has given us is that image of Ed Sheeran as a monkey on a table at the Apple Store. It’s cool that he has a sense of humor about it.

Sabrina Carpenter

Clearly, the dress-up montage from The Lizzie McGuire Movie had a huge impact on all of us.

Kendall and Kylie Jenner

Again, the impact of The Lizzie McGuire Movie is only just now coming into focus.

Olivia Rodrigo and Iris Apatow

They should’ve made Louis Partridge dress up as Fiyero.

Julio Torres

Torres hosted a party in Brooklyn, and went as … I think a garbage rat? Whatever it is, I love it.

Nicole Scherzinger

If your feed isn’t clogged with people posting photos of the Sunset Boulevard curtain call, you might just think that Scherzinger went to Heidi Klum’s party as “Woman Who Is Bloody.” No, this is what Scherzinger looks like at the end of the show. She literally went straight from performing to the party, so I guess her costume is Norma Desmond. Obsessed.

Jennifer Hudson

In contrast to Janelle Monáe, Hudson took a normal approach to Halloween and dressed up as Whitney Houston.

Kelly Clarkson

Elsewhere in daytime-TV world, Kelly Clarkson dressed up as Beetlejuice. I love that she put that nasty stuff in her teeth — Halloween is about commitment!

Keke Palmer

Palmer and her sister, Loreal Chanel, conjured up their best pouts for their Milli Vanilli costume.

Sabrina Carpenter

The “Espresso” singer had a couple of different costumes at her Dallas concert on Wednesday night, but my personal favorite was her Sandy from Grease look. Carpenter regularly sang “Hopelessly Devoted to You” while on the Eras Tour and brought it back as a surprise song during her own show. She opened the show as a Playboy bunny and ended it as Tinker Bell.

Ciara

Ciara opted for two costumes this year, the first being Naomi Campbell in the Fall 1991 Alaïa show. The second, in what is basically a 180, was Glorilla. Specifically, Glorilla in the viral video where she talks about her Memphis accent.

Zooey Deschanel

I really respect when a couple does two individual costumes. Here we have Deschanel dressed as Angie Katsanevas from the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, while her Property Brother fiancé is in a Wolverine costume. This is so much better than if she had gone as Deadpool.

Amelia Dimoldenberg

Now all we need is Andrew Garfield in a Mike Wazowski costume.

Megan Thee Stallion

You have to love Meg’s commitment to reminding us that nerds really can be hot. Here she is dressed as Starfire, a superhero from the Teen Titans universe of comics.

Trixie Mattel

I would watch the version of Scooby-Doo where all the characters are in drag.

Chloe Bailey

I love a Jessica Rabbit costume because there’s no pretense about what’s going on. You’re dressing as a cartoon who’s famous for being hot. It’s really just an excuse for a beautiful woman to wear an eye-catching dress. As she should!

Halle Bailey

Halle dressed as Halle! The singer put on her best Bond-girl smize to get dressed up as Jinx from Die Another Day.

Coi Leray

And Coi Leray went as Halle Berry’s Catwoman, surely there won’t be a third musician going as—

Tyla

Okay, so the trend for Halloween 2024 is Halle Berry characters. Here’s Tyla as Sharon Stone, Berry’s character from the 1994 Flintstones movie.

While all the young girls dressed as Halle Berry, Halle Berry went as a witch.

Sophie Turner

What if Trinity from The Matrix was even sexier? Finally someone tackled that question. Side note: I love that her friends went as pre- and post-makeover Mia Thermopolis from The Princess Diaries — very cute! Speaking of the Princess of Genovia …

Anne Hathaway

Don’t get me wrong, I love whatever is going on here, but I am wondering what exactly the costume is. The “Boo York City” shirt is our biggest clue. Is she a haunted Statue of Liberty? A pre-Giuliani Times Square? A pun that turned into a costume?

Lizzo

Here we have Lizzo dressing up as Ozempic, sort of. She’s dressing up as the version of Ozempic from South Park, which was called Lizzo. Are you following? That’s why Cartman is in the background. Good for her for rolling with the joke. This wasn’t her only costume, though. She also dressed up as a character named Hunny Bunny. If you follow the link in her caption, it leads to a website where you can buy an eight-inch figurine of the character for $350. What’s going on here …

Lizzo also went as a Face Card, which is probably the best out of the three.

Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco

These two made their couple’s-costume debut with an Alice in Wonderland theme — fun! Gomez is Alice and Blanco is the Mad Hatter, and while their costumes are very well done, I can’t take my eyes off of that beautiful couch. If you know any details about it, please get in touch.

Alix Earle

Keeping with the Alice in Wonderland theme, Alix Earle eschewed the easy pun (Alix in Wonderland) and went as a sexy Cheshire Cat complete with facial prosthetics and cat-eye contact lenses. I have to hand it to her, that is very funny.

Ice Spice

The orange-haired rapper went as the orange-haired humanoid Leeloo from The Fifth Element. She even had a movie-accurate Multi Pass prop, a perfect touch.
