Broad City lore says that 27 years old is “child bride” age — what about 37 and 40? On Wednesday, Broad City co-creator and star Abbi Jacobson and her fiancée, For All Mankind actress Jodi Balfour, announced on Instagram that they’ve officially married after three years of dating. The pair met virtually in 2020 during the pandemic and both describe falling in love on their first date. Jacobson later visited Balfour in London with a toy ring. “We were both crying. Jo says, ‘You little shit, I have a ring for you, too,’” Jacobson recalled to Cultured magazine, where they’ve shared more details of their wedding.
The ceremony took place at Brooklyn’s Public Records, the premiere destination for people whose ideal evening includes a small-plate vegan dinner immediately followed by a low-key DJ set. This time, DJ-ing duties were handed to Matt FX, Broad City’s music supervisor; their first dance was to Aretha Franklin’s “Don’t Let Me Lose This Dream.” Torrential rain scrambled the couple’s plans, forcing them to move dinner indoors and change in a supply closet. They both wore off-the-rack The Row dresses, before Jacobson switched into Versace chain mail and Balfour wore Vivienne Westwood. “My dress destroyed Jo’s tights within 35 seconds,” Jacobson said.
Congratulations to the couple — and RIP to those tights.
