This week on the In Her Shoes podcast, Cut editor-in-chief Lindsay Peoples is joined by Tracy Margolies, Saks Fifth Avenue’s chief merchandising officer. Margolies is responsible for choosing the brands that are sold at Saks and making sure the store stands out in a world where shoppers have thousands of options at their fingertips. Among the questions she keeps in mind when doing that is: How are people shopping today differently than they were shopping before?

Margolies tries to make sure she’s “capturing what our clients are looking for, being forward with what trends are happening and making sure people feel relevant.” She also talks to Peoples about how social media affects her work (and our shopping habits), appealing to different kinds of customers, and about balancing motherhood with a career that brings together her passion for the creative and financial aspects of fashion. “I love when those two pieces meet,” she says.
