Liam Hemsworth’s “conservative” family’s reaction to Miley Cyrus’s European escapades (public PDA with Kaitlynn Carter by a pool in Italy) reportedly pushed him to file divorce papers after six months of marriage and about a week of public separation. A source told Us Weekly on Wednesday that Hemsworth “thought they could work it out, but all those pictures of her and Kaitlynn ended that. Liam comes from a very conservative family and his family was freaked out by it.”
Last week, E! News reported a similar story, although it did not involve familial judgement. A source told the tabloid, “Even though Miley and Liam were separated for a while before she was photographed making out on the yacht with Kaitlynn, once Liam saw those photos he decided it was time to file for divorce.”
Much has been made of the couple’s split, every speculation has been indulged. Three weeks ago, when news of Miley and Liam’s separation first broke, a rep for Miley released a bland statement:
“Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers. They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.”
The rollout of said amicable divorce was dramatic, though. Miley moved on quickly with Kaitlynn Carter, sent weed to Carter’s ex, went on Twitter to list her mistakes (hello, penis cake) and to deny allegations of cheating, and performed a song about her breakup at the VMAs while soaked in some kind of gel or oil.
