Adwoa Aboah and Her Dad Celebrate Father’s Day With Burberry

Model Adwoa Aboah and her dad Charles Aboah arrived as guests of honor at Burberry’s Soho store last night to celebrate two things: (1) Father’s Day, and (2) the launch of Burberry’s new fall/winter collection campaign, which Aboah helped produce as both a model and art director. The Cut’s Stella Bugbee moderated a discussion with the father-daughter pair to start the evening, asking them about fatherhood, Adwoa’s young exposure to fashion, and their Ghanian heritage. Models Duckie Thot, Ruby Aldridge, and Matilda Lowther, plus Adwoa’s mother Camilla Lowther, were among 40 guests who attended the fête.

Adwoa stars in the new Burberry campaign, but it’s also the first time she has worked behind the camera. She and photographer Juergen Teller chose to shoot in three places she calls home — New York, where she lives now; London, where she grew up; and Ghana, where her father’s family is from. In each place, Burberry models wore the new collection (graffiti prints, plaid bucket hats, and neon colors) aiming to capture the spirit of the location. In New York, for example, the models wore bomber jackets, black hoodies, and sneakers.

“I was so excited to not only be the product of the shoot, but also be part of its journey,” Adwoa told the Cut. “As models we learn so much from being among different creative teams and clients and photographers and stylists. I put all that knowledge together for this shoot.”

Charles Aboah recounted Adwoa’s early exposure to fashion throughout her childhood. In London, he is the owner of CiMS, a cloud-based project-management and job-costing app for the creative industry, and Camilla Lowther is a prominent fashion agent. The father-daughter duo reflected on how they’ve influenced each other. Charles said Adwoa has taught him “courage, strength, and love, as well as overcoming adversity.” Adwoa said she has learned her “worth as a human being and a woman” from her dad.
