At last night’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund dinner, Peter Copping, the recently appointed creative director at Oscar de la Renta, had a chance to reflect on de la Renta’s memorial service, which had taken place earlier that day on the Upper East Side. “It has obviously been very emotional, and today was a very important day,” the designer said. “It was really apparent what Oscar meant to all the people of New York, and not just New York, but people from all around the world there, who attended the memorial service today.” Added Copping, who will show his first collection for the label in February, “It became very apparent that I have some really big shoes to fill, but I am taking comfort knowing that Oscar chose me. And I think we really would have shared a lot of things. So I feel very frustrated [our time] got cut short and we didn’t have time to work together, because I think it would have been a very nice relationship that we would have been able to create there. But I’m very excited about the new position, and I’m excited about working with the team and being here in New York, and I’m very happy.”
