Hillary Clinton had a little fun at her own expense while presenting Oscar de la Renta with Carnegie Hall’s Medal of Excellence ceremony late last week. “This man has been working for more than 20 years to turn me into a fashion icon … despite his best efforts,” Clinton said in a speech honoring the designer. “Year in and year out, he’s never given up.” When de la Renta took the stage to accept the award, he returned the compliment. “My beloved Hillary, do not disappoint me,” he said, wagging his finger. “You have to be President, okay?” According to WWD, she responded with a characteristically ambiguous shrug-headshake combo.
