Last night Macy’s feted their latest line, Maison Jules, a collection of Parisian-inspired separates like printed dresses, cashmere cardigans, and skinny trousers. Models in various looks from the collection were perched atop bicycles or holding poles on a circular platform that rotated slowly. At the center was the campaign star, French “It” girl and personal style blogger Jeanne Damas clad in a sparkly gold dress, messy updo, and perfect red lip. Virtually unknown Stateside, the 21-year-old petite beauty and dead ringer for Lou Doillon has quite the following, which earned her a contract with IMG models. She’s posed for the likes of Olivier Zahm, Surface to Air, and Petit Bateau to name a few, but Macy’s marks her first U.S. project and debut to the American masses.
To add further French cred to the collaboration, Garance Doré shot the campaign, which features street-style-esque photos of Damas. “I kept the spirit of what I captured in Paris at the beginning [of my blog]. I gave them locations I knew and loved. It’s a very personal map of Paris,” explains Doré. The images, displayed on screens around the gallery, show Damas riding a bike along the Seine, enjoying a cup of coffee, or sitting thoughtfully in front of the Eiffel Tower.
As for Damas, her plans aren’t limited to just modeling. As a third-year student studying theater, she dreams of a future starring in both movies and the stage. She says of her career goals, “I love comedy, but I don’t know if I’m funny. But I’d love to work with Woody Allen!” But before she does that, might we suggest a hair campaign? Those perfectly tousled tresses deserve a special spotlight of their own. When asked about how she maintains her undone look, Damas answers in the most French way possible: “I don’t do anything for my hair. I wash it every two or three days and go. Just shampoo, no conditioner.”
