Beautygram: Faux Undercuts at Brood

Keeping with spring 2013’s favorite era, Serkan Sarier took inspiration from the nineties (party on, Wayne) for next season’s Brood collection. Hairstylist Duffy told The Cut, “I was about 14 or 15 years old in 1992, and when Serkan showed me a picture of this boy from the nineties with an undercut, it just reminded me of everything I didn’t like back then, even though I had an undercut, too.” To create a cool, buzz-y look (and one that was Duffy approved) without actually having to break out a razor, he slicked back the tops of models’ hair to form a tight shape around the head, then made two skinny cornrow braids. The ends of hair were then plaited into two fishtail braids with pieces pulled out and folded into a knotlike mess (loads of Bumble & Bumble Thickening Spray and Surf Spray added texture) with pins in the back. M.A.C. makeup artist Hannah Murray followed up with a look she described as “pretty punk,” pulling out three eyeliners: bright blue, yellow, and an “eighties baby pink.” She explained, “There’s no retro feel to the eye because there isn’t a flick or cat eye at the end. We’re also hooking the color around the inner corner to frame the eye for a more sporty look instead.”
