Multiple celebrities were in attendance at the event, including Oprah, a close friend of King's. The mission elapsed 10 minutes and 21 seconds.
Perry explained why she sang "What a Wonderful World" in space after touching back down in Texas on the Blue Origin rocket with her all-female crew.
"It’s not about me. It’s not about singing my songs, it’s about a collective energy in there, it’s about us, it’s about making space for future women and taking up space and belonging, and it’s about this wonderful world that we see right out there and appreciating it," Perry said. "This is all for the benefit of Earth."

Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos took a tumble while rushing to greet his fiancée Lauren Sanchez and the rest of the all-female crew after they took a 10-minute flight into space.
Bezos was seen on video rushing toward the New Shepard capsule that landed safely in West Texas when he appeared to trip and fall to the ground.
The billionaire quickly got back to his feet and continued to the door of the pod, where he eventually greeted Sanchez with a hug and a kiss.
Those who accompanied Sanchez aboard the Blue Origin New Shepard mission, NS-31, included Katy Perry, television host Gayle King, film producer Kerianne Flynn, NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe and civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen.
Gayle King said her trip to space on Monday served as "a reminder that we need to do better, be better."
The journalist and talk show host went to space aboard a Blue Origin New Shepard rocket on Monday. The all-female crew included Katy Perry and Jeff Bezos' fiancée, Lauren Sanchez, as well as three other women.
"It's so nasty and so vitriolic nowadays. If everybody could experience that peace that we had up there, and the kindness — what it takes to do what we did...I'll never, ever, ever forget!" she said in a post-flight interview.
Both King and Perry kissed the ground after exiting the return pod.

Perry showed the daisy flower she carried with her into space in honor of her daughter, Daisy, whom she shares with Orlando Bloom. Perry's husband and daughter attended the launch.
“I feel super connected to love," Perry said when asked about the daisy. "I think this experience has shown me you never know how much love is inside of you, like how much love you have to give, and how loved you are until the day you launch."
"Daisies are common flowers, but they grow through any condition," she said. "They grow through cement, they grow through cracks, they grow through walls. They are resilient. They are powerful, they are strong, they are everywhere. Flowers are to me, God’s smile, but it’s also a reminder of our beautiful Earth, and the flowers here, and God’s smile, and the beautiful magic that is everywhere all around us, even in a simple daisy. So to really appreciate it, and remember it, and take care of it and protect it."
Perry said the experience of going to space was "second to being a mom."
"That’s why it was hard for me to go because that’s all my love right there, and I have to surrender and trust that the universe is going to take care of me, protect me and also my family and my daughter," Perry said.
Jeff Bezos could be seen embracing his fiancée, Lauren Sanchez, after she returned safely from a spaceflight mission aboard Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket on Monday.
Sanchez hugged and kissed Bezos after exiting the landing pod before asking, "Where are my babies?"
She was one of six women who went into space during Monday's rocket launch.
Sanchez was the first to leave the pod after landing, followed by Katy Perry, who kissed a flower and then the ground as she exited.
“I feel super connected to love. So connected to love. I think this experience has shown me you never know how much love is inside of you, like how much love you have to give, and how loved you are until the day you launch," Perry said afterward.

The Blue Origin New Shepard mission, NS-31, is scheduled for liftoff at 9:30 a.m. E.T. on Monday, April 14, 2025.
The all-female flight carrying Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos’ fiancée, Lauren Sánchez, pop star Katy Perry, American TV personality Gayle King, CEO of STEMBoard Aisha Bowe, bioastronautics research scientist Amanda Nguyễn and film producer Kerianne Flynn is New Shepard’s 11th human flight since its first crewed flight in 2021.
The flight to space is expected to last around 11 minutes.
Audiences can watch the women from Launch Site One in West Texas while livestreaming on both FOXBusiness.com and FoxNews.com. Additionally, on the official Blue Origin website and on YouTube.
The flight path will pass the Kármán line, a boundary 62 miles above mean sea level that borders Earth’s atmosphere and the beginning of space, according to Space.com. Then, the rocket will unbuckle to float weightless while the women will have a view at Earth until they make their way to landing. The crew will return home when they land by parachute.
The official NS-31 patch was revealed in late March and features the last names of each woman in addition to six silhouettes of women.
Katy Perry and the rest of Blue Origin's all-female crew have boarded the New Shepard rocket ahead of their launch Monday morning.
Perry is joined by billionaire Jeff Bezos' fiancée, Lauren Sanchez as well as talk show host Gayle King and three others.
The flight is the first time in over 60 years that an all-female crew will go into space. Bezos himself gave some parting words to the women before the launch, telling them he was excited for them to have a "life-changing" experience.
The flight is set to last just 11 minutes, with the crew experiencing four minutes of weightlessness.
Billionaire Jeff Bezos shared a video previewing the Blue Origin rocket flight set to take Katy Perry and five other women into space on Monday.
Bezos' fiancée, Lauren Sanchez, is among the group.
"I love this crew!" Bezos wrote in a post on X.
Monday's flight is scheduled for 9:30 am ET and will take off from Van Horn, Texas.
Katy Perry described the moment she agreed to join Blue Origin's first all-female crew for a flight into space this weekend.
Perry said Blue Origin invited her on the mission and she started doing research into the New Shepard rocket.
“When I was invited to come on this voyage, I looked up the capsule. On the very front of it is the outline in the shape of a feather and when I saw that it was like a total confirmation because my mum has always called me feather," Perry told her followers on Instagram.
She went on to describe another coincidence regarding the mission.
“And so I’m in space training today and there’s a lot to digest. We’re almost finished with the day and they showed us the capsule and we run simulations in another capsule and tested the noise and what to expect and all these different things and they reveal the capsule name.
“The capsule’s name is Tortoise. A wave, just the most energetic wave, just shot through my body. And I was like, ‘What? This capsule’s name is Tortoise?’"
“My mum calls me two nicknames. Feather and tortoise. What are the chances that I’m going to space on a rocket in a capsule with my symbol, the feather, called Tortoise?" she continued.
“There are no coincidences, and I’m just so grateful for these confirmations and so grateful that I feel like something bigger than me is steering the ship," she added.
Katy Perry shared a look at the space suits she, Lauren Sanchez, Gayle King and other members of the all-female Blue Origin team will be wearing for their launch on Monday.
Perry posted a group photo on Instagram, writing in the caption, "Happy International Day of Human Space Flight. Forever in awe of the Universe and its alignment."
In the photo, Perry, Sanchez, Gayle, scientists and activists Amanda Nguyen and Aisha Bowe and film producer Kerianne Flynn, all wear dark blue jumpsuit-style ensembles, adorned with a NASA patch, a patch with their last name, and the Blue Origin logo on one arm.
Sanchez also shared some behind-the-scenes video of people’s first reaction to the suit, walking into a room with fiancé and Blue Origin owner Jeff Bezos, with people cheering the look.
The journalist showcased some more details of the suit, which she helped design, including flared pant legs, with a white feather design on the bottom of the left leg, part of the Blue Origin logo.
In another part of the clip, Sanchez got out of a car, stretching in the suit and saying, "Well, they’re comfortable. OK, that’s for sure!"

Billionaire Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin will launch Katy Perry, Bezos' fiancée Lauren Sanchez and four other women into space on Monday.
The New Shepard rocket is set to take off from Van Horn, Texas at 9:30 am ET. The flight is scheduled to last just 11 minutes, with passengers spending four minutes beyond the Kármán Line, the internationally-recognized border between the atmosphere and space.
The all-female crew will be able to unbuckle and look out of six-foot windows for a handful of minutes before securing themselves for descent.
This will be the 31st time Blue Origin has launched its New Shepard rocket, and the 11th time it has done so with a crew aboard.
Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin is launching its first all-female flight to space Monday, making it the 11th civilian launch since its debut.
Katy Perry, talk show host Gayle King and Bezos' fiancé Lauren Sanchez are among the women set to take flight on the suborbital rocket on Monday. Film producer Kerianne Flynn, NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe and civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen will also be on board.
The historic flight is the first time in over 60 years that an all-female crew will visit space.
Per Good Morning America, Perry and her crew underwent final training sessions at their rocket's launch site in Van Horn, Texas, a few days ahead of the flight.
The women debuted their Blue Origin flight suits on social media over the weekend, which featured a NASA patch, their last names and the Blue Origin logo on a navy jumpsuit.
"Usually, you know, these suits are made for a man. Then they get tailored to fit a woman," Sanchez, who helped redesign the suits, told The New York Times.
"I think the suits are elegant, but they also bring a little spice to space."
Sanchez enlisted the help of Monse co-founders Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim to create the jumpsuits for the all-female team. Sanchez said Perry previously noted, "We’re putting the ‘a--’ in astronaut."
Bezos founded his private aerospace company in 2000, and they started sending humans to space in 2021 with New Shepard.
